In partnership with Henrico County Government, we are excited to announce that local artist Nico Cathcart has been selected to create a new mural at The Cultural Arts Center, as part of a new recycling area on our campus!
In addition to creating and painting the mural, Nico will work with youth from our Outreach programs, inspiring youth from the James River Detention Center (JRDC) who will assist in painting part of the mural!
Nico Cathcart is a painter and muralist hailing from Toronto, Ontario, and currently living in Richmond, Virginia. She strives to discuss Feminism and Conservation in her highly-colorful works which often include local flora and fauna, as well as the female form. The artist is in the process of going deaf, and often includes birds in her work as a nod to her disability, You can find her TEDTalk about her work, and disability online on the TEDTalk YouTube channel. A veteran of the past 3 RVA Street Art Festivals, you can now find her work in many cities across the us including Richmond, Ithaca NY, Rochester NY, Pittsburgh PA, and Columbus OH.
